RELATION TO SITE: Co-Founder, Critic and Writer

A BRIEF BIO: I’ll indeed keep this brief. I’ve been obsessed with film ever since I was a kid. However, like most parents dream for, I lacked the cojones to pursue a career in the arts. Flash forward to a steady job in a setting with friends, I still found myself void on the inside, dream wise. As such, I decided to nut up and chase my dream. I quit my job, enrolled into a film program and I’ve been working with excellent crew’s on excellent shorts ever since! In another couple of years, I hope to be entering the industry as a member of the Post-Production team for sound town. I like tattoos and long walks to the movies.

ALWAYS DOWN TO WATCH: I could sit down and watch Moneyball, Independence Day, The Master or The Tree of Life every day for the rest of my life.

FILM CHARACTER I MOST RELATE TO: I really wish it was a Brad Pitt character, but it’s probably more along the lines of Walter Sobchak from The Big Lebowski.

MOST PRIZED FILM POSSESSION: This is a tough one. Most likely a three way tie between by Inglourious Basterds “Brad Pitt is a Basterd” poster, my Tree of Life poster and my original pressing of Ennio Morricone’s The Thing score. All three of these are pretty badass on the cinematic scale.

FAVOURITE FILM QUOTE: “You met me at a very strange time in my life”

RELATION TO SITE: Partner, Critic and Writer

A BRIEF BIO: There has never been a moment where I haven’t loved movies, and up until meeting Josh, there was never a moment I was in a room and didn’t love them the most. I am one of the rare ones at unREEL because I do not have any school experience or any expectations to write, film or start in a movie one day. Of course, I dabble in screenplays, but that is more of a for fun thing than anything. Mostly I am just content watching films and being engrossed in the stories that they tell.

ALWAYS DOWN TO WATCH: One of Troy, Black Hawk Down, Gangs of New York, Say Anything, Walk the Line or Your Highness seem to always find themselves tossed on either while I clean the house, or while I should be sleeping, but much rather be curled up in my favourite chair, quoting a movie to myself.

FILM CHARACTER I MOST RELATE TO: Rob Gordon from High Fidelity. I am a hopeless romantic, but also can be a total elitist snob when it comes to film and music.

MOST PRIZED FILM POSSESSION: I love my film collection. It has slowed down over the last year, but I still like adding gems to it when I can.

FAVOURITE FILM QUOTE: “If you can’t laugh at yourself, life is going to seem a whole lot longer than you’d like.”

RELATION TO SITE: Critic and Writer

A BRIEF BIO: I am an aspiring filmaker and filmwriter with a BA[H] in History from The University of Windsor and BFA[H] in Film Production from York University. I’ve always loved telling cinematic and visual stories, from the point of using red markers to make blood on my action figures when they died, to filmaking. I hit film puberty in about grade eight when I started to realize there was so much more to film than dinosaurs and Batman (but those are still very important). I tried and failed making a feature back in Windsor, ON, and have participated in the Windsor International Film Festival’s 48 Hour Flickfest. After doing a BA in History and doing most of an MA in the same subject, I decided to finally pursue film in Toronto.  You can check out some of my stuff on Tlevesque.com.

ALWAYS DOWN TO WATCH: Gangs of New York and Adaptation will be forever re-watchable to me.

FILM CHARACTER I MOST RELATE TO: Any Coen Brothers protagonist because I am always trying to navigate a world of chaos and never know what I’m doing.

MOST PRIZED FILM POSSESSION: My Framed Fury Road Poster? (thanks Josh) My First Criterion Bluray? (Thin Red Line) Hard to say.

FAVOURITE FILM QUOTE: “There are two ways through life, the way of nature, and the way of grace.”

RELATION TO SITE: Critic and Writer

A BRIEF BIO: For as long as I can remember, life has been made simpler by relating to film; a character, a scene or a quick one-liner. When we can see our own stories reflected back to us, there is a comfort in knowing that our experiences are not lonesome. Like Alex DeLarge puts it “It’s funny how the colors of the real world only seem real when you viddy them on the screen.” I’m a film theory student at York University and I play around with some screenwriting. On average I watch 2-3 movies a day, it can seem excessive but I’m into it.

ALWAYS DOWN TO WATCH: Seriously anything. I’m a follower of the bodies of work from directors like Fritz Lang, Frank Capra, Billy Wilder, Ingmar Bergman, Akira Kurosawa, Vittorio De Sica and Wong Kar-Wai. Then again I could watch Drop Dead Fred, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and a John Hughes film every day of the week.

FILM CHARACTER I MOST RELATE TO: Mia Farrow as Cecilia in The Purple Rose of Cairo reminds me of my own silly idolizing love of black and white films and the blurred lines between my reality and my fantasy.

MOST PRIZED FILM POSSESSION: My Criterion dvd of Godard’s Une femme est une femme.

FAVOURITE FILM QUOTE: “Build my gallows high baby.” Out of the Past 1947.

RELATION TO SITE: Critic and Writer

A BRIEF BIO: Since the first time I cried to Titanic (don’t judge), I understood the power of films and the affect it has on me. Since then, I have fallen in love with the craft and I can call it my true passion. I am a french canadian, born in northern quebec and I have a degree in acting from UQÀM (Université du Québec à Montréal). For me, there’s nothing like a double or even triple feature in a movie theater with friends.

Like the greatest film critic said, one day; “I’ll see you at the movies !”

ALWAYS DOWN TO WATCH: Step Brothers, Titanic, 12 Angry Men or Shame.

FILM CHARACTER I MOST RELATE TO: Will Hunting, because I’m a genius.

MOST PRIZED FILM POSSESSION: My Criterion Bluray collection, counting 12 Angry Men, La Haine, Mullholand Drive, The Thin Red Line and many more.

FAVOURITE FILM QUOTE: “That’s so funny the last time I heard that I laughed so hard I fell off my dinosaur.” – Dale in Step Brothers
